An Grianan Hotel sits in the shadow of the ancient Grianan of Ailigh Fort. It dates back as far as 600 A.D. and is steeped in history, myth and legend. It is from this historic monument that An Grianan Hotel takes its inspiration.

There are 43 attractive rooms decorated with classic and contemporary furnishings and furniture. They are well equipped with all modern comforts. Executive Rooms and suites are available for those looking for something a bit more special.

The restaurant, called the Old Church Restaurant, is in a converted church which dates back over 150 years. It is a unique, fine dining experience. There is also a bar at the hotel that serves food, providing an alternative dining option.

An Grianan Hotel is about 10 minutes drive from Derry. It is located in County Donegal in the Republic of Ireland in a small village called Burt. The area is rolling countryside and farmland with many historical monuments.

It is on the main road between Derry and Letterkenny, both of which can be accessed easily. Shopping, dining and entertainment are all widely available in both locations. Public transport links are limited, however, so this is a hotel best suited to those with their own transportation.

An Grianan Hotel has 43 tastefully decorated rooms. Each has a flat screen plasma television, tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer, iron, ironing board and a personal safe. There is also an executive room which is larger and enjoys some of the best views of the Donegal countryside. A magnificent bridal suite is also available. It is huge and luxurious with a sunken jacuzzi bath, bathrobes, slippers and his and hers showers. It is not surprising that An Grianan is such a popular wedding venue for people in Derry and Donegal.

One of the most striking features of the hotel is the restaurant, called the Old Church Restaurant. It is in a converted hotel, which is over 150 years old. It is fine dining in a setting that features stained glass windows, an open fire and a striking timber framed roof.

Meals can also be ordered in the Fort Bar and Lounge, which is inexpensive and good quality. It is also a good place to unwind and have a drink, with entertainment most weekends and large television screens. This is also where breakfast is served. Finally, there is a Sunday carvery which is served in the comfortable and bright Tuatha De Danann Suite.

Outside there are beautifully manicured lawns and gardens, perfect for a stroll or to just sit and enjoy the Donegal countryside. There is plenty of parking on site and free WiFi internet access is available throughout the hotel. Meeting rooms and functions rooms are also available.

Getting To Derry By Air

There are three airports in Northern Ireland - two in Belfast and one in Derry (Belfast International Airport, George Best Belfast City Airport and City of Derry Airport). Flights are available to and from one of these three airports from over 20 UK cities. All the major airports in the UK fly to Northern Ireland, including London, Manchester, Liverpool, Cardiff and Edinburgh, plus many others. Several flights per day operate to most of these airports, catering to both the business and leisure traveller.

Londonderry and Derry are the same place. That is a statement of the bleeding obvious, but the fact remains there are two names. The background to this is an historical dispute between nationalists and unionists and for that reason, many people shy away from discussing the name of the city, particularly when it comes to tourism and business. From our point of view the fact there is a name dispute is an important part of the make-up of the city including its culture and heritage. It is of interest to many visitors, and rightly so, as learning about the name dispute is part of experiencing and learning about Londonderry.
